You’ve just collected your little darling from school and they are absolutely ravenous, but what can you give them as a snack that will keep their hunger at bay but not spoil their dinner and above all is healthy.
Minimal Prep Snacks If you’ve been busy all day and not had the time to prep anything, then these are some great solutions to the problem.
We find, if you offer a small amount of a few things, then children tend to get more excited about it, they seem to like variety, so use the below suggestions or mix and match your own. Savoury selection Breadsticks, cheese, avocado Crackers and cheese Cucumber, pretzels, cheese Cottage cheese on crackers Slice of toast with mashed avocado Sweet selection Dried fruit Selection of berries Plain yoghurt with fruit Smoothie Sliced apple with peanut butter Cereal bar Prepare in Advance Snacks We’ve all been there, usually the first week of term, when we want everything to run smoothly and so we try and get ahead and prepare the weekend before school starts. Why not whip up some of the following to have ready for when school finishes or pop them in the freezer for a later date. Blueberry muffins Healthier flapjacks Cheesy biscuits Trail mix – a selection of popcorn, dried fruit and nuts (chopped up) Granola bars Fruit lollies Homemade dips like hummus, avocado and cannellini bean dip or tzatziki with veg sticks Soup – prefect when freezing outside Freshly Prepared Snacks For those days when you have a little more time, or your child has a friend over from school! Rainbow fruit skewers Pitta breads filled with chicken and veg Cheese on toast Rainbow veggie wraps Veg sticks, tortilla chips and freshly made dip
